China executes three times as many people as the rest of the world

China carries out almost three times as many executions as the rest of the world put together, according to the most conservative estimate by Amnesty International. In 2008, the group confirmed 1,718 executions through news reports and public documents, but many others are not reported. Some analysts say the figure may be above 6,000. The exact number is a state secret. Many executions are done on the road using vehicles called the death vans designed by Jinguan Motors. The makers of these vans say the vehicles and injections are a civilized alternative to the firing squad, ending the life of the condemned more quickly, clinically and safely. According to them, the switch from gunshots to injections is a sign that China “promotes” human rights now.

They also eat cats boiled alive.

Recently some restaurants in Guangdong, China, have been promoting a popular dish called “water boiled live cat”.

The way the restaurants kill the cats is very cruel and inhumane. One of the chefs even says “the more torture the cats receive, the better they taste.”

They use a bat and beat the cats until they pass out; then throw them into hot water and boil them alive, then de-skin and cook them again.

One restaurant in Pan Yu district, even has a cat “shelter” in their back yard.

Customers go out back and pick which cat they want to eat and the chef will beat the chosen cat half to dead and boil it alive. Not just wild cats end up on the dinner table, some high class cats like Persians will end up a meal as well.

The Menu offers the following choices and prices:

  • Cat meatï¿¥10 ($1.25)/lb
  • Cat’s brain ï¿¥30 ($3.5)/lb
  • Cat’s intestine ï¿¥50 ($6.4)/lb

Lets just hope this is not another prelude to a SARS breakout like before.

One Response to “Top 10 Amazing Things You Didn’t Know About China”

  1. YangGuiZi says:

China uses 45 billion chopsticks per year? Seems like a low number, actually. Anyway, disposable chopsticks are usually made from bamboo, which grows much faster and easier to harvest (and make chopsticks) than trees.

200 million people in China live on less than $1 a day? Yes, but many of these families under the “poverty” level are self-sustaining and do not require more than $1 a day anyway.

Ice Cream and Pasta may have been created in China? Interesting thing is that in cities like Beijing ice cream is traditionally eatn in the winter and hot steaming noodles a summer favorite.

They also eat cats boiled alive? Yes, very accurate description of the preparation. Fortuately, dogs are slaughtered just as pigs, sheep and cows are. However, hard to blame them from eating cats or dogs when any source of meat is premium.

Moreover, combine fact about cats (meat shortage) and water shortage and you find another interesting fact. In 2005 the BBC reported that China was the largest importer of soybean from Brazil. Because of so much land not suitable for ranching, China has a shortage of beef and mutton. Pork and poultry comes from animals fed with soybeans. However, the farmland in China just grows soybean for human consumption. Therefore, the importation of Brazilian soybean makes China one of the largest contributors to the deforestion in the Amazon area.
